College students across the country are encountering synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, in new and dangerous ways including counterfeit medications like stimulants to power through long nights of studying and finishing projects. While some have their own prescriptions, others often borrow from friends or purchase medications online—a dangerous trend compounded by the rise of fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills.
To discuss this timely issue, (MAPDA) convened a webinar featuring medical professionals, public health advocates, and student leaders to tackle this crisis head-on. The discussion provides actionable insights on preventing overdoses and equipping campuses with the education and tools necessary to keep students safe, including access to all FDA-approved overdose reversal agents.
With 70% of overdoses linked to fentanyl and other synthetic opioids in ‘party drugs‘ and counterfeit prescriptions, campuses must be equipped to tackle this urgent issue.
